There are lots of different forms of magnesium and it can be a bit trial and error to find the one that works best for you
⠀
⠀
❇️ MAGNESIUM GLYCINATE
Also called biglycinate, this form is often recommended by functional medicine practitioners
⠀
⠀
❇️ MAGNESIUM CITRATE
A cheaper alternative to magnesium glycinate, also recommended by many practitioners. It can have a laxative effect
⠀
⠀
❇️ MAGNESIUM MALATE
Good for increasing energy, maybe too stimulating for some people
⠀
⠀
❇️ MAGNESIUM OXIDE
Avoid this type. It is the least bioavailable. It is often the form used in cheap low quality supplements
⠀
⠀
❇️ MAGNESIUM CHLORIDE
This is my favourite type. Available in liquid form which you can spray on your skin it is great at relieving aching muscles. Absorbing it through your skin is a great alternative if you have digestive problems or malabsorption issues
⠀
You can also take it orally, I put a few drops on my tongue so it is absorbed directly into my bloodstream avoiding my gut
⠀
⠀
❇️ MAGNESIUM THREONATE
Crosses the blood brain barrier so may help improve cognitive issues (although there is limited research confirming this)
⠀
⠀
❇️ EPSOM SALT - MAGNESIUM SULPHATE
Put this in your bath and the magnesium will soak in through your skin. It also has a detoxing effect, pulling toxins out through your skin. If you are sensitive I would advise starting with a low-dose as I personally found the detox affects quite strong in the beginning. I started with 10g increasing by 5g each week until I reached 100g
MORE ABOUT MAGNESIUM
Magnesium is used in over 300 chemical reactions in the body. Although you can get it through diet many people are deficient. Mainly because modern day intensive agriculture practices mean food sources are low in trace minerals such as magnesium
⠀
It has a relaxing effect both on your mood, making it helpful for anxiety or insomnia, and on your muscles where it can help reduce pain and twitches
⠀
Out of the hundreds of supplements I’ve tried magnesium has been one of the most effective. It improved my sleep, increased my energy and eliminated my aches and tremors
