Another question I got a million times:
HOW COLD NORWAY IS WINTER TIME?
What are the RIGHT CLOTHES TO WEAR IN NORWAY if you are planning to visit in winter?
In this video I’ll reveal my proper Arctic winter outfit .. having that even -30 degrees outside will not keep you indoors.
🥾Let’s start with your shoes for winter in Norway! I personally find it the most important thing of all - to keep my feet form.
❌ Timberland shoes - keep them for London or any other European city with +15 - 10 winter time. In Norway, especially outside Oslo they are not going to work.
1 - they are extremely slippery
2 - they are cold, they are not made for Norwegian winter so you won’t feel comfortable wearing them here outdoors winter time.
What’s the best way - proper hiking shoes!
You can use them the way they supposed to be used - when you go hiking here. But you can also use them easily for city walks. Even to go to the restaurant or to cocktails bar in Oslo if you like - people here don’t care what sort of shoes and clothes you are wearing as long as you feel comfortable.
🧦 Having decent pair of those hiking shoes, you won’t be needing several layers of socks - your snowboarding socks or a pair of wool socks will do the job perfectly.
🧤 If you are planning to go to Tromsø winter time and spend a night on the beach chasing the Northern Light - get those guys with you!
They are feet and hands warmers.
You can buy them locally - visit any Clas Olsen in any shopping center around Norway and get a pack of 6 for about $10.
👖Make sure that your trousers and jacket are waterproof. If you already have your skiing or snowboarding gear - just go for it! It’s absolutely normal, lots of people do the same here.
Same principle as always in Norway- practicality comes first. Make sure you are warm, comfortable and you can seat on the snow ☺️
🎩 Hat and neck warmer - extremely important again! Sometimes even summer time. Don’t believe me - go to Lofoten in June and check this yourself.
✔️ Hat - depends on your preferences.
It can be really warm to protect your ears. Which I do recommend as the wind can be really strong and sometimes painful for your face and head.
❗️Get a neck warmer:
1 when it’s really crazy wind you can put this guys all around your face keeping only your eyes open
2 - when you come to the public place - hotel, restaurant, pub - you can just roll it down and you’ll never forget it
🥽 Make sure you have your snowboarding or skiing goggles with you.
And not just for those activities, sometimes when it’s blizzard outside you just need to have:
Neck warmer or balaclava
Your hat
And above this little structure you can put your goggle - fantastico! You are good to go for a walk and enjoy your outdoor life no matter what current weather conditions are.
🩲Last but not least - base layer.
And never forget as one of the most popular sayings in Norway goes - there’s no such thing as a bad weather only bad clothing. Which is so true in fact!
