See how to replace the shift shaft seals and the countershaft seals on a dirt bike in this video from Partzilla.com.
This Kawasaki KLX110 is a pit bike conversion, and we’re replacing the shift shaft seals and countershaft seals on this KLX after we found a puddle underneath the bike. So, we’re going to replace both.
We’ll start with the countershaft seal, and that means removing the front sprocket. We’re going to do that without taking off the chain just to save ourselves a step. There’s a circlip in there that we’re going to replace, and we’re also going to take out the countershaft sprocket collar and clean it up as well. Now if you’re replacing your sprocket collar, the process is just the same right up until we put the old one back in and you put a new one in.
With that handled, we’ll press in the new seal using a socket to guide it into place.
The shift shaft seal is a little trickier. Here, the seal has metal around it, so you can’t just dive in there with a pick tool and pull it out. But we have a hack. John will show you how to use a drill to get a hole started for a screw that you can use as a point to pull the seal out.
With the old seal out, we’re back to using a socket again to make sure we drive the seal in straight.

In the video we’re working with a 2006 Kawasaki KLX 110, but you will have similar steps for your Kawasaki dirt bike. If you’re not sure whether these steps apply to your machine, leave a comment and we’ll get back to you.
