NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian says the state government has been looking at the issue of children being unable to return to school when the state reopens on October 11.
Currently, students are set to begin returning to school on October 25.
"It's fair to say that we didn't expect to have hit 70 per cent double dose on the 11th of October, so we are considering what that does for the school system,” Ms Berejiklian said.
She said due to the NSW school system being "huge", there is a lot to consider which includes the rate of teachers vaccinated.
“At this stage parents should still plan for the 25th but we are looking at options there if we can bring things forward.”
