This was written by the Italian jazz trumpeter Nini Rosso and called Concerto Disperato. In 1963 it was the theme for a Stewart Granger movie and the original title changed. Ken Thorne had a top ten UK hit that year but Rosso's version is supposedly even better. Has there ever been a more exquisite musical evocation of inspiration and grief? One to salute our forces in Afghanistan perhaps.... Stewart Granger film (called "Commando" in the USA)
