Digital Czech 2019 – On the threshold of further economic and social transformation
#united we stand, divided we fall
The ongoing digital revolution in the economy and society represents a huge opportunity for Europe and especially for the small and medium-sized EU member states. The breakthrough technology transforms the structure of the economy and opens opportunities for the emergence and growth of new businesses in all areas of the economy. At the same time, we are facing new and fundamental challenges in the area of politics, regulation and the whole of society. We cannot face such things ourselves, but only as a common Europe.
New European Economy Forum: Challenges for the Society 5.0
The fourth annual conference dedicated to digital policy is organized in cooperation with the European Liberal Forum and will focus on the liberal dimension of technologies (LibTech). The development of artificial intelligence can affect labour market changes such as a definitive shift of economic power from labour to capital, and the resulting fundamental political transformation and instability that may not be obvious at the time of the boom, but will show full force if problems arise. The crucial influence on Brexit, the election of Donald Trump, and the global rise of populism, according to recent research, had automation. And that’s just the beginning. What are the responses of a liberal society to the challenges of hyperlinked Society 5.0? In Prague, for the first time in the framework of the New European Economy Forum, the political and economic leaders of the EU will discuss this.
Fulfilling the Goals of the Digital Czech Republic
Last year we set targets for the development of digitization in the Czech Republic in cooperation with experts of the working groups of the Institute for Policy and Society. The Digital Czech Republic is one of the main priorities of the new Cabinet, which has adopted a fundamental strategy and concept in the fields of electronization of the state and the economy and active participation at EU level. Together with public and private sector leaders and invited domestic and foreign experts, we will not only assess progress in areas such as e-government, e-health, education, or finance but also introduce new initiatives in this area. Thanks to this, the Conference has the potential to lay the foundations for the further work of the IPPS expert groups within the Digital Czech Republic policy.
