Trump's pick for Defence Secretary, Pete Hegseth, has argued several times that the US should let Israel take action to stop Iran acquiring nuclear weapons.

Trump's cabinet appointments over the past week have suggested the President-elect's policy will be hawkish toward Iran, with members such as Hegseth arguing that the Biden administration has not done enough to deter the country from threatening the US.
