Canada's federal environment ministry opened a formal investigation into a tailings leak at Imperial Oil's Kearl oilsands mine in northern Alberta. Residents of Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation and neighbouring communities learned of the leak in February but it was first discovered in May of 2022.
