This is a half-arsed version of the live rendition of the Moby Dick drum solo played by John Bonham. I play the first section in a very extra note-y manner, not the true way Bonham actually played it. In any case, a couple folks in the past few weeks had asked if I'd just play the song and/or tool around on the kit, so I thought I'd bang this video out.

It's been over 2 years since I played the song with the Zep cover band, so I did my best just sitting down and playing it. I had headphones on just to keep the drumkit volume low to my now semi-fragile ears, I wasn't playing to the song (as is clear on the back end when I totally botch the timing of outtro a few times!). The opening arrangementis as I said are off/over note-y as well.. In any case, it's a very honest representation of my (today May 22 2012) version/interpretation of it.
On the solo intro I put more notes in than Bonham usually did as I simply enjoy doing it.
At the 8:20 mark (or so) I throw in a few sets of triplets alternating between left hand lead (the way Bonham did it) and right-hand lead; I had said in an earlier video that I'd practice my right hand lead and report back in a month-so here it is! It's clumsy, but there you go.
And a shameless plug: If you'd like to buy my album of original songs, it's available:
