Police in India are blaming the managers of a temple for a fire there that killed more than one-hundred people... and injured hundreds of others.
The police say management held an illegal fireworks display that led to the fatal blaze.
"That is correct. We had denied permission for this fire display, open display this time. That is fact."
Thousands of people were gathered at the temple in southern India on Sunday... for a pyrotechnic show to mark the start of the Hindu year.
A firework ignited a shed of stored fireworks,... sparking a string of powerful explosions and causing one building to collapse.
This is one of the worst accidents at a religious festival. Is the tragedy expected to lead to greater oversight?
Some people are already demanding that fireworks be banned from crowded places in Kerala state. But part of the problem is power,... because rich and powerful temple trusts there have a history of flouting the law.
