When he was 11, Joseph Dunn was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia. His initial treatment was chemotherapy and radiation. He lost his hair before he was in the seventh grade. He survived the cancer, but it shaped who he would become. Dunn, now 29, knew because of his interactions with the medical staff that he wanted to go into medicine. It was just like another family. Dunn went on to become a nurse at Cincinnati Children's to give back what he had gotten as a child. He is working on the Oncology Unit. He says surviving cancer makes him look at life from another perspective and appreciate it.
