(25 Jun 2020) As California sees a worrisome rise in the number of coronavirus cases and hospitalizations, Gov. Newsom on Thursday praised Disney after the company announced it would delay reopening its California theme parks.
Disney had hoped to reopen Disneyland and Disney California Adventure in Anaheim on July 17 after a four-month closure due to the coronavirus. But the state has indicated it won't issue guidelines until after July 4, causing the company to delay reopening those parks.
Newsom spent much of his daily news conference imploring individuals to practice safety measures to protect themselves and others, at one point even personally demonstrating proper hand-washing techniques.
"When you're out and about in the public, please, we have a mandate in the state of California to wear a face covering," he said. "We believe that can have a profound impact on slowing the spread, protecting you, protecting others, and sending a message of the seriousness of this virus."
