(23 Oct 2019) A convoy of Russian troops had on Wednesday entered the Syrian town of Kobani.
Troops were seen driving to what looked like an abandoned observation post in Kobani a few hundred metres away from the border and meeting with Syrian army officers.
Also, the Interfax agency carried a statement by Russia's military police saying patrols had begun in the northeast of the city of Manbij.
A Turkish-Russian agreement giving Syrian Kurdish fighters 150 hours to withdraw from almost the entire northeast border region of Syria has come into effect.
Under the deal, Russian and Syrian government forces were to move to ensure that the fighters pull back 30 kilometres (20 miles) from the border as of 0900 GMT Wednesday.
The deal reached between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin allows Turkey to maintain control over areas in northeast Syria it has taken since October 9, when it launched an offensive against Kurdish fighters it considers to be terrorists because of their links to Kurdish militants fighting Turkey.
The deal gives the Russian troops and the Syrian army control over the rest of the Syria-Turkey frontier.
