STA CECILIA BAND 89/SCB WIND ORCHESTRA Composed mostly of young musicians and retired members of the Philippine Army Band of Gen. Trias, Cavite , the Sta. Cecilia Band`89(SCB `89 WIND ORCHESTRA) was founded in June 1989 by a group of band enthusiasts Benedicto Clamor Clarito, Alfonso Madriaga, Leovigildo Fernando,Segundo Colmenar and Prof. Rodel Colmenar of the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra whom served as their first music director The band was named after St. Cecilia, patron saint of music. The bands first concert was during the Serenata ng mga Banda in celebration of Gen. Trias town fiesta in October 1989. Under the musical direction of Maestro Rodel Colmenar, the band was formally introduced to the public on its inaugural concert in November 1989 in celebration of the feast of St.Cecilia.Founding members of SCB `89 are soloists in their own right,with ages ranging from 10 to 50.The band also won in four major band competitions from 1991 to 1996. The band is a regular performer at "Concert at the Park Presents"......and a favorite whenever there is a band festival at CCP,PICC,Intramuros And Philamlife Theater as well as performing for SM supermalls special events.They also had the privilege of playing under the baton of some notable band conductors such as Prof. Herminigildo Ranera,Prof. Romy San Jose,Prof. Arnel Feliciano, Arnold Constantino and Maestro Gerard Salonga as well as band workshops under Romy Javier and Benito san Jose. Under the leadership of Frenvee Clarito Andra,Sta.Cecilia band `89 has won in various competitions for band held in different provinces, most recently was winning the top prize in the Makati battle of the brass band making them the most awarded band in Gen.Trias Cavite as acknowledged by their City government. At present the band is under the leadership of Frenvee Andra(music director) and Jasper Andra(assistant conductor),both PRINCIPAL members of the ABS-CBN PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA and faculty members of the UST Conservatory of Music.
