0:24 He grew up in Kashmir and spent his early years trekking the forests of Kashmir and fishing with his family. He always wanted to do something in wildlife, but was not sure initially that a university degree would help him.
1:40 The course in Environmental Biology at McGill University with a specialisation in wildlife Biology. It was a three year course and he spent only half the time at Mc Gill. The course of Mammology meant that they would go out with their professor snowshoeing looking for mammals. They had a very close interaction with professors who are so passionate about their work. Most of the funding and grants came to him with the help of his professor.
3:23 He went to Costa Rica, Tortuguero national park, with GVI, Panthera, Sea Turtle conservancy. Conserving sea turtles, camera traps for Jaguars. The project was meaningful and geared towards conservation.
5:05 Dr. Jim Fyles of McGill University helped him get funding for Kashmir to track wildlife in Dachigam National Park. He tracked the Himalayan Serow and the Hangul, which are endemic species of the Himalayas. At the Panama field study semester with the Smithsonian institute went to explore the Chilbre caves for bats. He tracked the bats, ID’d them, and worked towards conserving wildlife. Del Monte has fruits which are pollinated by bats. They submitted their report to the environmental conservation authority of Panama and Relcom. Some students from Panamanian university are continuing this research.

Canada has great environment programs. At the graduate school level there are many programs available – ecology, biogeography, wildlife, conservation, evolution. In UK, Oxford, Imperial and Cambridge combine and make a great program at the graduate level.
16:31 He has a Nat Geo grant right now for which he is going to the Andamans to observe the Narcondam Hornbill. Next year hoping to go to Afghanistan to work on conservation of the Saigas Antelope with a professor from University of Bristol.
