A steam pipe explosion at a power plant in Dangyang City in central China’s Hubei Province has left a scene of devastation at the site.

A high-pressure steam pipe ruptured during testing at around 15:20 Thursday, leading to the deadly blast, which has reduced a nearby workshop into piles of rubble.

The force of the explosion ripped the ceiling, blew out the windows, and destroyed the tables, chairs and equipment, littering the floors with debris.

The blast killed 21 workers and injured five others, authorities said.
