A view of Japan‘s rich agricultural & forestry heritage – Kyoto Miyama
Located about 50 kilometers north from central Kyoto, Miyama spans multiple hamlets that are scattered throughout the mountains and valleys. Despite its close distance to the city center, the village feels far removed from modern-day life. 96% of the town consists of forests and pristine waters of the Yuragawa river sourced from the virgin forest “Ashiu no mori” (a research station of Kyoto University’s Field Science and Education Center) flow through the heart of Miyama. Kitamura, one of Miyama’s hamlets with cluster of thatched roof houses, was designated as the national preservation district in 1993. Since then, a lot of tourists are visiting here throughout the year. Come and visit Kyoto Miyama where you can truly immerse yourself in the village's traditional charms
