On Friday came the unsettling news from Statistics Canada that nearly two million jobs were lost in April, adding to the one million lost in March, pushing Canada’s unemployment rate to a staggering 13 per cent.
The unemployment rate would have been 17.8 per cent had the agency’s labour force survey counted among the unemployed the 1.1 million who stopped looking for work — likely because the COVID-19 economic shutdown has limited job opportunities.
But the lockdown hasn’t hit all industries with the same intensity. Global's Abigail Bimman joins us to explain which sectors of the Canadian economy have bourne the brunt of the COVID-19 job losses thus far.
