In this video, Garth Schulte covers Google Compute Engine: what it is, what it can do for you, and how it fulfills Google’s Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offering. He’ll also demonstrate how to spin up a virtual machine in the cloud using Google’s software development kit (SDK).
Google Compute Engine is their Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offering that allows you to spin up virtual machines, known as “instances,” on the Google Cloud platform.
It has a number of features, including load balancing, sub-hour billing, global scoped images, integrated networking, disk & network performance, Linux-based operating systems, and live migration.
When you’re creating an instance, you can select between four different machine types: standard, high CPU, high memory, and a small type. This incredibly customizable infrastructure continues with a number of different resources you can select, including disks, images, networks, firewalls, addresses, and regions & zones.
Garth will demonstrate how to spin up your own virtual machine in the cloud and throw a web server on it in just a few minutes.
