Shikhar Dhawan has backed the Indian team to lift the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy under the leadership of Rohit Sharma in June. The veteran opener has praised India captain Rohit Sharma and called his squad balanced.
Dhawan also shed light on the Impact Substitute rule which has led to extremely high-scoring matches in the IPL 2024. He said posting such high totals would be really difficult in the T20 World Cup which will be held in the USA and the West Indies as the impact player rule would be missing.
The impact player rule which allows teams to play an extra batter or a bowler is believed to have bolstered the number of high scores being recorded in this IPL, with totals in excess of 250 being recorded as many as eight times. ''All bases have been covered. The team looks balanced and India have got a very good chance (of winning the title),” Shikhar Dhawan told PTI. ''Rohit is a seasoned captain and the boys are very happy and comfortable around him. We have got a very good and experienced side with amazing youngsters and we have a very good chance to win the World Cup,'' Dhawan added.
Former opening partners Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan were seen exchanging a heartfelt hug and a few smiles ahead of the high-voltage clash between PBKS and MI in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on April 18 in Mullanpur. The sight of Dhawan and Rohit engaging in the wholesome moment took no time before going viral on social media. However, PBKS captain, Dhawan, missed his side's clash against the Hardik Pandya-led MI side due to a niggle he picked up ahead of their last fixture against RR on April 13. On the other hand, Rohit's considerably good batting form has not been enough for MI to continue their winning momentum in IPL 2024.
Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has been one of the most prolific run-scorers in international cricket. His partnership with Rohit Sharma will always be one of the biggest reasons behind India’s domination in ODIs in the last one decade. Together, they formed a formidable opening duo, laying the groundwork for imposing big totals and orchestrating memorable run-chases in the 50-overs format.
Dhawan and Rohit amassed an impressive 5,148 runs while opening for Team India in ODI cricket. This feat makes them the fourth pair in ODI history to surpass the 5000-run milestone while opening the innings.
While Dhawan has now fallen down the pecking order, Rohit has taken over as the captain of the side in all three formats. Speaking about his partnership with Rohit, Dhawan attributed much of the success to the Team India skipper’s support from the other end.
“My collaboration with Rohit & his support at the other end at the top of the order has been instrumental in providing strong starts to the team, setting the foundation for successful chases and big totals. I seriously give credit for a lot of my best performances to Rohit’s support,” Dhawan said
