We took the overnight sleeper train from Bangkok, Thailand to the border to Vientiane, Laos. This is what the private bunk looks like. It's a lockable 2-berth compartment with its own sink so you can wash your face and brush your teeth, but it doesn't have its own toilet -- you'll have to use the common toilet.

It was a bumpy ride but fun, nonetheless.
