Sexlock Holmes and his trusty sidekick Dr. Hotson use the scientific method to explore the differences between male and female masturbation and comfort talking about sex.
Rationale: A discussion between friends reveals that Andrew and his friends talk about masturbation, while Sarah, Erin, and Meghan do not discuss the same topic as comfortably.
Problem/Question: Are women less comfortable talking about their sexuality in terms of masturbation than men?
Hypothesis: College women will report lower amounts of masturbation per week than men.
Method: Observational method – survey
Prediction: There is going to be a lower correlation between comfort level and times reported for women than there will be for men because historically and culturally women talking about their sexuality is less accepted.
Expected results: Our expected results are that if we surveyed men and women many times, asking on a scale of 1-5, how comfortable they are masturbating, and how often they masturbate per week, that women would have lower reported amounts of masturbation than men at each comfort level.
Confounding variables: We do not know if women are underreporting the amount that they masturbate per week. They could in fact just masturbate less than men do.
