(13 Jul 2017) French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday said that France and Germany wanted "to defend a common agenda of a Europe" that was "able to protect more".
Macron made the comments at a joint news conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Paris.
Merkel said that citizens "expect" protection from terror threats.
She added that governments have been working "with great speed" to put together a Europe-wide travel registry.
Macron and Merkel on Thursday opened the 19th annual summit between the two European countries, centred on security, defence and boosting the European project in a time of doubt.
