In this short video, I just wanted to share with everyone what it actually looks like seeing a sump pump basin fill with water, and then be discharged by the sump pump installed within the basin.
In this particular video, I had originally plumbed in a check valve coming out of the exit line of the sump pump discharge. Well, about 8 months into the life of this project, for whatever reason, the check valve decided to stop allowing water to pass through it.
Of course, no one knew this until after two weeks straight of rain occurred, and yep...it burnt the sump pump up!
So this past Friday, I went out, took a new pump with me, and started diagnosing possible problems. I tested the old pump. It was definitely burnt up. I tested the the new pump. It shot water in the air like geyser! I plumbed the new pump in. I filled the basin. No water was being discharged????!!!!! So I then cut out the check valve. Ran a water hose down the line thinking it was clogged. No debris came out, and water was crystal clear. I knew then it had to be the check valve!!! So no longer than this run was, I plumbed it back together without a check valve. I was not worried about any possible back flow. The discharge exits onto some rocks in an outside flowerbed. And if any discharge did occur, it would fall into the emptied basin itself. Which is no problem whatsoever.
And this video here is the final result! You get to see everything functioning perfectly as it should be, discharging the water from inside the crawl space, and sending it outside the home.
