WARREN COUNTY, Ohio (Deborah Dixon) -- There are new details Friday following the October 8 arrest in what was a cold murder case out of Warren County. Investigators arrested Sam Perone in Phoenix for killing Richard Woods 23 ago. Woods and Perone both sold furniture. On October 8, 1992, Woods last stop was at Perone's Lebanon furniture store. He was found dead about a month later, shot twice in the head. Technology has changed so much since that day. When Woods failed to come home, there was no cell phone to ping. DNA technology has changed. It took a village of investigators at the Warren County Sheriff's Office to bring the case to a grand jury. The sheriff's office says it took manpower and money, as well a as a prosecutor who would take a case like this to trial. Major John Burke says so much changed for everyone involved in this case. "Yesterday on October 8, 2015 the family of Richard Woods woke up with the thought of the 23rd anniversary of his death on their mind. About 1875 miles away from them, in Phoenix, Arizona, Sam Perone, unknown to him was about to be woken up to face justice. That's what these guys and gals worked for all these years was justice. And I think we're on that track." Prosecutor David Fornshell also thanked Local 12 and Deb Dixon for keeping this case in the public eye. Woods' wife, now remarried, believes Perone's arrest will bring her family peace. On Friday, Perone waived extradition back to Warren County.
