Obstructive hydrocephalus can be treated successfully in many patients with an endoscopic procedure. This endoscopic third ventriculostomy creates an internal bypass for the fluid to escape the brain and avoids the necessity to place permanent hardware into the brain, such as a ventriculoperitoneal shunt.
In this video, Dr. Garni Barkhoudarian, Director of the Pacific Adult Hydrocephalus Center, demonstrates the endoscopic third ventriculostomy technique . This minimally invasive approach causes little collateral damage to the normal brain with effective relief of symptoms in most patients. These operations are performed at the Pacific Adult Hydrocephalus Center at Pacific Neuroscience Institute, Providence Saint John's Health Center, Santa Monica, CA.
