At a cost of 533 million dollars, the bridge now connects the Dubrovnik area with the Croatia mainland, bypassing a small patch of Bosnia and Herzegovina that divided them for decades. The 2.4-km-long bridge links the Croatian mainland with the Peljesac Peninsula of its southernmost Dubrovnik-Neretva County, bypassing a short strip of land belonging to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The cable-stayed bridge gives Croatia its long-awaited territorial continuity and travel convenience.
