Sri Lankan troops conducting operations in the no-fire zone (NFZ) fired at an explosive laden truck driven towards them by the LTTE today (April 28) causing its explosion while capturing two LTTE-built earth bunds, the military said.

The troops were engaged in a successful operation to capture another 700 m long LTTE-built earth bund built across Rektavaikkal area, south of Valayanmadam in the NFZ. The Tigers drove the truck into the troops minutes after the capture of the earth bund, defence sources said.
Troops have recovered seven bodies of Tiger cadres who perished in the operation. No troops have been injured.
