Pull cord light or neon bathroom switches can fail from time to time due to mechanical wear and tear or simply as a result of not been built sturdy and would often need fixing or replacement during its proposed shelf life or life time. If you are not confident enough or are unsure, please contact your certified or qualified local electrician or electrical engineer to replace the broken pull cord switch.
This video shows you how to perform a self test and testing for voltage, isolating the AC voltage before rewiring the pull cord circuit by changing the pull cord.
PERFORMING SELF TEST AND TESTING FOR AC VOLTAGE
Non-contact voltage testers from LAP are easy to use and sensitive – either bring the tip preferably near the terminal strip or directly to outlet or supply cord by touching the tip to the mains neutral, life or earth, a terminal strip, outlet, or supply cord AND IF the tip glows red and the device beeps, there's AC voltage present.
Engineers, Electricians, Maintenance, Service & Safety personnel, and inducted homeowners can test for life, AC voltage or energised circuits in the workplace or at home and can even detect miss-wires , (if unknown - false positives and negatives of an electrical outlet.), if the device is utilised or is functioning correctly. The LAP non contact voltage detector enables an operator of the device to detect AC voltage with out contact as opposed to you traditional screwdriver voltage tester which utilises contact.
HOW TO USE THE NON CONTACT VOLTAGE DETECTOR DEVICE
The Tip is used to probe to ascertain or detect voltage, avoid touching the tip when testing for AC voltage. Ensure batteries are fitted in by opening the battery cover while simultaneously pressing the Top of the pocket slip and sliding the battery cover out before inserting the two AAA batteries before fitting the battery cover.
To use first perform a self test by pressing the power button to turn on the detector and when the green light close to the detector tip comes on, it means the detector is working properly but if not the detector isn't working properly. Touch the probe tip to or preferably bring near a cord plugged into the socket, if AC electrical voltage is detected, the RED LED light flashes and the detector makes a beeping sound while the green LED light is off.
If testing in obscure or dark conditions, press bright spot light to light up the test environment for much safer use.
