This behind the back block is nothing special but we ALL remember it. WHY?
There's a very good reason that I've NEVER heard a fellow Star Wars fan mention - you saw that block TWICE the first time you saw the Obi-wan vs Darth Maul fight.
And twice the second time, and third time, etc.
I DON'T mean that the fight choreographers put that block in twice - they only choreographed it happening once.
But the EDITOR showed you that EXACT same footage twice and you never noticed!
And no, I don't mean as a double take a la Jackie Chan jumping off a building.
Qui-gon Jinn dies at the hands of Darth Maul, then Obi-wan charges in and does the block during a lightning fast exchange.
Then more of the fight happens, like you'd expect. But then...
The shot right before Obi-wan Kenobi cuts Darth Maul's Lightsaber bo staff in half, they put that same footage of the same block in, just zoomed way if.

And it's not MERELY that you see the same move twice; equally important is that it happens right AFTER Qui-gon Jinn dies and right BEFORE an important turning point in the fight scene - the destruction of Darth Maul's weapon.
The same block gets attached to TWO emotionally charged, significant moments.
By recycling the footage in order to transition to the shot of Obi-wan cutting Maul's weapon in half, the editor unintentionally linked the same piece of fight choreography to TWO important, memorable moments in the scene.
And on top of that you see the same footage twice but don't realize it because of the extreme close up?
How could that block NOT become iconic?
We were bound to remember it because things that repeat stick in your mind. (^_-)
