Visitors to Dortmund are often struck by one building almost as soon as they arrive. By the main railway station is a distinctive tower with a golden U on the roof. It is part of the former Union Brewery and has been a symbol of the Ruhr for 90 years. EU funding has helped to turn it into a cultural centre.
