On Aug 4, the Philippines reported 6,352 new COVID-19 cases -- a record increase for the country and the region. Manila and surrounding provinces have returned to a strict lockdown that will last for two weeks. More than 27 million people -- a quarter of the country's population -- have been ordered to stay home. Public transport and some businesses are closed again, while police are back at checkpoints to enforce movement restrictions.
