The seeders in the UST (Under Surface Seeding Technology) series are built for sowing on land that has not been tilled, or that has only been minimal tilled with cereals, rape, forage or catch crops. The seeders can be used as a cultivator for preparing the seed bed, without transforming it.
Agronomic #advantages of #conservativeagriculture through the UST seeder:
- Reduced soil breakdown action which enhances soil structure and increases mineralization of organic matter. This promotes the development of soil microorganisms
and stimulates soil health.
- Reduction of soil erosion and minimal soil nutrient loss as a result of wind and water erosion.
- Increased soil moisture retention
- Increased availability of soil nutrients at the first stage of development and consequently less nutrient demand during the growing phase.
- Better water absorption and retention and therefore faster crop growth
- Effective weed control thus reducing or eliminating the need for herbicide.
The UST seeding element with its winged side blades (patented design) opens the seeding vents creating a horizontal groove which works as a mechanical weeder.
The seeds are blown under the soil surface into the groove. A layer of soil and residues raised by the blade, falls back onto the seeds eliminating the need for a soil
closing implement.
Advantages compared to no-till sowing with disc coulter
Less HP requirement; reduced fuel consumption
When compared with same width drills, the lower number of seeding elements and the patented design significantly reduce traction.
The reduction of working time and horse power reduce not only fuel costs but also tractor costs.
Wearing parts
UST coulter wearing parts are lower in number, easy to replace and inexpensive. Conventional seeding systems with disc openers involve multiple moving parts,
discs, hubs, bearings, and closing devices which all significantly increase wear and tear, costs, and down time.
Agronomic advantages
UST is a strip-tillage unit which micro- cultivates the superficial layer. It acts as a mechanical weeder and interrupts the water dispersion from deeper layers. This is
simply not possible with conventional no-till drills.
