In this video, we explore why the herd's youngest elephant bulls Mambo and Zindoga engage in sparring, both playfully and competitively. Sparring is a natural behaviour among young bulls as they begin to establish their place in the herd’s social hierarchy and develop their skills. Their sparring has become more competitive. As the bulls mature, we are seeing more intense displays of strength and dominance. While it’s a part of their development, if the sparring becomes too aggressive or dangerous, the older bulls or cows of the herd will step in to calm the situation, reminding the young bulls of their place within the social structure.
