This video was actually longer but Insta caps reels at 90 seconds. Boo!
So let me narrate the second half of the video here:
I listened to two podcasts discussing the history of tipping.
One was by NPR and it’s called Throughline. It went into detail about the entire history of tipping including its racist origins and how it’s carried on to our practices today.
The other podcast is Stuff You Should Know and it glossed over the entire racial context of Pullman’s story. There was no mention of it at all. I have no idea if that was intentional by the hosts or not but I will note a significant difference between the two podcasts.
Throughline is hosted by two people of color, a man and a woman, whereas Stuff You Should Know is hosted by two white men. Moments like this are when I am reminded once again that diversity matters.
So I encourage you to seek out ways to consume more media, content, books, tv shows, movies that feature diverse voices in them.
