Panel Discussion: Hydrogen-Fueling the Future: Opportunities and Challenges
Session 2: Financing the low carbon hydrogen
Session Focus for Discussion: ESG has become an essential factor for financial institutions and the driver to invest in low-carbon energy technologies. However, the low-carbon hydrogen value chain is complex, capital-intensive, and absent a merchant price. With the hydrogen market still nascent and facing a chicken-and-egg problem between potential suppliers and demand centers, investors must ensure that these investments are de-risked. What do investors need to see to make a project bankable and provide a return on investment? What, from the point of view of an investor, is the role of governments in such projects (if any)? Other than low-cost hydrogen production, what are investors looking for to meet their ESG requirements (particularly the “social” and “Governance” part”)? There will be a question-and-answer session at the end of the session.
