August 22, 2024: A historic moment for my channel!!!
GO Transit 214 is the first of 15 reactivated Hawker cab cars (nos. 200-214) to be used in revenue service! Previously decommissioned for multiple years, these cab cars were brought back to life last year, although 214 is the only one documented to lead an in-service train (206 was also in service briefly, but midset). The first known instance of 214 leading in service was on May 2, 2024, when it went down the Stouffville Line at about 6:30 AM or so. The inconvenient time meant that no railfans were able to see this event (the only visual evidence of it even leading was from a passenger who had to take the train at that time). Upon arriving at Union, the cab car was removed from service and remained as such until the evening of August 21, 2024, when it was put on a Lakeshore Consist to operate on the Lakeshore Corridor. This enabled railfans to see the reactivated 214 in action for the first time! On the 22nd, 214 was used for scheduled short-turn services on the Lakeshore West, as well as the Stouffville Line's evening Mount Joy turn, giving me as Youtube's Stouffville Railfan a rare opportunity to see it as well. Unless a railfan filmed 214 north of Centennial, I was the first railfan to see a Refurbished Hawker Cab Car Leading on the Stouffville Line! And with 214 being put on an all-day Lakeshore run on the 23rd, I think that it's safe to say that this officially marks the return of the Hawker cab cars!
