Teachers’ Day Celebrated at Sainik School
Teachers’ Day was celebrated with usual vigour and enthusiasm at the premises of Sainik School Bijapur.
Dr.Shivanand M Jamdar IAS, Director, School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, Rani Channamma University, Belagavi was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Principal Col R Balaji delivered a welcome speech. The programme began with the lighting of the Ceremonial lamp and garlanding the portrait of Dr.Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr.Jamdar recalled the contribution of Dr. Radhakrishnan to the field of education and philosophy. He revived the old tradition of honouring the teachers by declaring his birthday as teachers’ day, he said.
Referring to Sainik Schools as modern Gurukula, he said that the gurukula system provided firm foundation and groomed students not only in the study of text but also practical knowledge essential to lead in the mundane world. He exhorted the teachers to keep themselves updated as students have become smart and well-informed since they are exposed to modern gadgets and internet. Teachers have significant role to play as they mould their personalities during their formative years and form everlasting impressions in their minds, he said.
As part of the celebration, students of Class XII organized a number of games for the teachers. Principal Col R Balaji welcomed the guests and presented a memento to the Chief Guest. Registrar Wg Cdr E. Srinivas and Offg Senior Master Damodara K. were present on the occasion.
Mr.D.Vijayakumar, Master in English, introduced the Chief Guest. Music teacher Mr.C.N.Jadhav and his troupe presented the invocation song. School Captain Pramod Shikkeri proposed vote of thanks.
