Peristaltic pumps are one of the easiest pumps to use on the market. The pump operates using the principle of suction. The rollers compress the tube and this creates a negative pressure to pull the sample up through the pump mechanism. They make great portable pumps, because the only thing coming into contact with your sample is the disposable tubing, which can be changed between boreholes to limit cross contamination. Peristaltic pumps are a great option for areas where you may have contamination from non-aqueous phase liquids, as there are no decontamination requirements after sampling. On most models you can achieve flow rates of up to 1 liter per minute. And it's very easy to control the flow and reduce it down to low flow rates.
