"I'm not going to let the poor choice of someone who blew a stop sign ruin my life. If anything I want to let that fuel me to be an even stronger fighter."
In 2011, Colleen Kelly Alexander was hit by a freight truck while biking in Madison, Conn. Despite severe medical trauma and three years of surgeries and therapy, Colleen is now an active athlete, marathon runner, physician trainer, and motivational speaker. This is the story of her accident and how she has been able to stay positive and active while bouncing back from devastating injuries.
A print version of this story will appear online and in the Autumn 2014 issue of Yale Medicine Magazine.
