Learn how to make a layered ruffle skirt without a pattern in this step by step sewing tutorial. This DIY ruffle skirt is a very popular boho style and it can be made as long or as short as you’d like – so you can make a ruffle mini skirt or maxi skirt. You can also make it as a high waist skirt like I did here, or make it to sit lower on your waist, so it’s totally customizable. I hope you enjoy this gathered skirt tutorial!
This one has quite a bit more calculations/math than my typical tutorial, but it’s a style that’s been requested so I wanted to show you how to make it. If you’re looking for easier tutorials perfect for beginners, I have plenty of those too. Just take your time as you do the measurements, write them down as you go so you know how big to cut each piece, and you’ll be good to go.

MATERIALS NEEDED:
FABRIC: Light to medium weight woven fabric – a flowy fabric will work best for this to get the movement like my skirt has. I used almost 2 yards of a “crinkle rayon” for mine, but the amount you’ll need will depend on how long/large you want your skirt to be. To get an estimate, follow the instructions to determine the sizes of your rectangles and then buy enough fabric to fit those dimensions.
