Happy ONAM to one and all …
Growing up in Bangalore, I had the privilege of being exposed to the diverse cultures of South India, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka . Amongst all the celebrations, Onam held a special place in my heart. I vividly remember my mother adorning a white and gold saree during one of the nine days of Onam. The sight of her in that traditional attire left an indelible mark on my memory.
To this day, whenever I wear a white and gold saree, I am overwhelmed with nostalgia. It transports me back to those beautiful, cherished moments of the past. I feel a deep connection to my roots and the vibrant festivities that brought people from different backgrounds together.
I recall how my mother would join the company of other women, whether they hailed from Bangalore, Tamil Nadu, or Kerala, all of them wearing the white and gold saree. In those moments, my mother seamlessly blended into their culture, becoming one with them. It is truly remarkable how a single outfit can bridge the gap between different societies and make one feel like a part of something greater.
As I wear the white and gold saree today, I am filled with a sense of pride and gratitude. It serves as a reminder of the beautiful memories and experiences I had growing up amidst the rich tapestry of South Indian cultures.
