Most of tertiary students in the public institutions in the country are funded by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme.
This poses a significant risk to the institutions when NSFAS fails to fulfill its responsibilities.
This, according to Professor Bismark Tyobeka, the Head of Universities South Africa's (USAF) Funding Strategy Group and Vice Chancellor of North West University.
Tyobeka was responding to threats by some students to protest against the Higher Education and Training Science and Technology Minister Blade Nzimande and his department, for continuing to pay NSFAS allowances through service providers whose service contracts were found to have been invalid.
