The Maharashtra government has announced a full toll exemption for all light motor vehicles entering Mumbai, effective from midnight. State minister Dadaji Dagadu Bhuse highlighted that this decision impacts five key toll plazas – Dahisar, Anand Nagar, Vaishali, Airoli, and Mulund – which previously charged Rs. 45 to Rs. 75 per vehicle. These tolls were initially set to remain in place until 2026. Bhuse revealed that approximately 3.5 lakh vehicles commute daily through these toll points, with 2.8 lakh being light motor vehicles and 70,000 heavy vehicles. The exemption aims to ease congestion, save travel time, and benefit daily commuters. Bhuse also emphasized that this long-discussed measure has finally materialized, marking a significant relief for motorists. While heavy vehicles will continue paying tolls, this move reflects the government’s commitment to improving urban mobility and reducing waiting times at entry points into Mumbai.
