During infertility there are several areas of concern. We start form the uterus. The uterus itself may be of an abnormal shape, there may be an area of division within the uterine cavity called as the septum may be present or a polyp which is present and is causing a mechanical barrier or a heavy bleeding. There may be fibroids. Large fibroids which are intruding into the muscle wall. Into the uterus and preventing pregnancy from happening. These can be treated laparoscopically. Second comes the tubes the fallopian tubes, it is important that it should be patent or open for the normal pregnancy to happen. If they are blocked again they can be again opened through cannulation method laparoscopically or hysteroscopically. It can also be checked for by a diagnostic procedure where we put on a dye and we check if there is a spillage and a free spillage in both ends of the tubes. The tube again could be very damaged and unhealthy. If they are stuck together they are not allow the pregnancy to happen, so they are separated out. There is a condition called as the hydrosalpinx wherein the tubes are already very damaged and dilated. If they are to be clipped, again that can be done laparoscopically. Prior to IVF it is done. The ovaries can have issues. Starting right form polycystic ovary, to large ovarian cysts to large endometriosis and thee also need to be treated laparoscopically. These cysts and fibroid surgery can be done by open method also. But the obviously it is involving large incision, risk for adhesions, and when there are risk for adhesions there are chances for pregnancy to go back. So from infertility point of view laparoscopically definitely you have much more better and a forward and a more biter chance to conceive in the future and last of all, within the cavity of the uterus. One needs to peep in and see if everything is fine. Even if it is a case of unexplained infertility, where there is no cyst, there is no fibroid, tubes are fine but you ate still not conceiving, and an IVF has been suggested. Prior to doing an IVF also hysteroscopically we also go and check the site where the implantation has to happen of the embryo is good and healthy or nots. So that is why laparoscopy play a very important role in infertility.
