Join us as we explore Clapham South, an abandoned deep level shelter.
We venture 11 stories down, 180 steps below the busy streets of London, weaving under and around the rumbling tube tunnels there lies a subterranean warren, the deepest of deep level bunkers.
Once a safe haven for people seeking refuge during the Blitz, now a relic, still packed with history from the second world war.
Each turn reveals another long dark tunnel, 1940s signage can been seen throughout and the hundreds of crammed bunk beds remain in place.
There was once a buzzing community down here, children claimed they felt more safe and free than they ever did in their own homes. Morale was kept high, with dances, music and a kids club.
It's extraordinary to witness these deep level bunkers and imagine what life was like for the people who were down here, back when returning to the surface was a scary and uncertain thing... the tunnels remain very much the same as they were back then which gives you an eerie sense of that dark past when walking the tunnels.
The first bunker, once a civil defence center, is located underneath a park, disguised brilliantly by trees, bushes and a flower patch. Not a lot remains within this one but amazing to see none the less.
