in the novel, first published in the 1980's the COVID-19 coronavirus is called Wuhan 400, it is described as a biological made weapon. Is it just a coincidence that the virus epicenter and city on lock-down is in Wuhan, China?
I feel that government organizations, but especially China know how dangerous and risky this COVID-19 virus is, otherwise why would they shut down cities and restrict travel. Every year more than 10,000 people die from the regular flu, but it barely makes the news and certainly there is no panic buying of masks or food. I am sure the real death toll is 10 times the reported number but is being kept a secret so the economy doesn't crash
