Ephemera is a juvenile female Grey-Headed Flying-Fox who was noticed on the ground in a suburban dog walking park. She was nearly dead when I arrived, with a spinal injury and a marked head injury, but since she was very cold, I gave her a bit more time to warm up. We have a saying - they're not dead till they're warm and still dead - sometimes warming up the little ones is enough to bring them back to life.
I opted to warm her from inside out, with some fluids directly into her abdominal cavity. It's a last ditch thing to do - but sometimes if the bat is revivable this might work.
I could hear the faintest erratic heartbeat but I didn't have a lot of hope she would come back to life.
I had another rescue to go to, so I put her into the incubator to warm up while I was at the next rescue.
She wasn't alive when I returned home.
RIP little Ephemera. Your time with us was so ephemeral.
