Memorial services have been held in America, and here at home to mark the 20th Anniversary of the September 11th terror attacks.
Ceremonies took place at Ground Zero, where two planes hijacked by Islamist terrorists, were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre in New York.
Moments of silence were also held at the Pentagon where another plane struck and in Pennsylvania, where a fourth crashed into a field when passengers fought back.
67 Britons were among the 2,977 people who died. Today the Queen said her thoughts and prayers were with the victims, the survivors and their families.
Emma Murphy reports from New York as America remembered its darkest day.
