Prolonged stay-at-home orders because of the COVID-19 pandemic has inadvertently led some of us to lead more sedentary lives. While people in other countries can now start their 10,000 steps a day challenge or couch to 5K challenge as restrictions relax, in the Philippines where I am, safety and health protocols require to keep wearing masks while doing fitness activities like running, exercise, or biking outdoors. It can be a challenge, but for people like me who miss being out in the sun and using my leg muscles, it's something we are willing to do, especially to lessen the risk of spreading the more transmissible COVID-19 variants. I wore a disposable Sailor Moon mask for Usagi + Princess Serenity power and protection!
The additional benefit of doing fitness activities with a mask on (if you're healthy) is it gives you the chance to be on oxygen deprivation training, which avid runners and hikers actually do to strengthen their lungs in preparation for strenuous hikes or sporting activities.
